New York City-Based Psychotherapist

About

My passion for therapy stems from my belief that it’s both powerful and healing to have a space to be heard and supported while addressing challenges and achieving goals. My philosophy about therapy is that anyone can make the changes they want to make and improve their wellness and mental health when they are motivated, supported, and have the right tools.

My Clients

I work with adults of all ages and walks of life who want to live a happier and more satisfying and productive life. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, trying to understand their career and relationship goals, learning how best to respond to daily stress, anxiety, and challenges, and striving to improve their relationships, emotions, and self-esteem.

My Approach

At the core, I believe someone has to feel safe and supported in order to grow and make sustainable changes.  To that end, I empower my clients to gain insight into themselves, clarify their goals, and work toward those goals in a supportive, warm, and empathic environment.  I give my clients space to talk things out, and I help them observe their thoughts and reactions with curiosity and without automatically judging or questioning them.

I provide my clients with the tools and skills to better understand themselves and feel resilient, grounded, and empowered to make changes.  My approach is empathic and exploratory and I draw from a combination of skills- and insight-oriented modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Experience and Interests

I received both my undergraduate degree and Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and spent several years working in the Department of Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, where I treated individuals struggling with a range of mental health issues.  Prior to that, I worked with individuals with chronic and progressive neurological illnesses at NYU Langone Medical Center.

I’m a big believer in the power of slowing down, savoring life, and taking care of oneself, so outside of my work, I love traveling with my husband, learning about Italian food and culture, exploring the diversity, food, and arts that New York City has to offer, and playing with my adorable and occasionally mischievous cavapoo, Baci.  While I wouldn’t consider myself an avid baker, reader, or runner, depending on my mood, I enjoy all of them.
